A blog for Gloucestershire AdEd tutors to share their ideas and expertise using ILT in their work.
Wednesday 25 June 2008
The blog entry in March "We're in the Money!!!" told us about a successful bid with WOA NTLCP (Whole Organisational Approach & Learning Change Programme). The project sounded exciting, I understand it is now running. Could the team leaders let us know more about the project? Thank you.
Have we got to the stage where members of the 'dream team' can share some of the fantastic things we have learnt with other ad ed colleagues? I was working with an ad ed tutor today (with other hats on) and she was asking how it was all going and how keen she is to learn about using the docucam and projector etc. with her learners. I said I would check out about how the plans to cascade learning are developing. Haven't blogged for a while - back from fantastic hols and keen to continue to be involved in the project.
During a recent observation by a member of the Ad Ed team it was suggested that my recording of achievement could have been enhanced by the use of a video camera. It was stated that the equipment was readily available and would take "only minutes" to learn to use. I am an Art teacher with many practical skills but nevertheless find it difficult to see how this can be the case. I know of colleagues who have spent many hours getting familiar with equipment they have been loaned in order to use it effectively in their teaching.
After reading through this blog to find out more I have seen that funding is available for training but worryingly, that it has to be used by the end of July. Is this the case? Has all the funding been used? Can anyone tell me what has happened so far with the spending of the £35,000.00.
In these days of increasing pressure and demands on tutors we need all the help we can get from our Managers and our experienced dream team colleagues. At the moment I remain unconvinced that the use of this equipment will be beneficial to my students' learning but I would like the opportunity of some training to explore the possibilities. I'm back from holiday and just catching up with conversation here on the blog. I'll let Jane and other AdEd colleagues answer the project questions but can assure you that, to the best of my knowledge, the funding is being spent as outlined in the bid submitted earlier this year and not apenny will be "wasted"
As for recording learning using video evidence, Diana, the small Sony cameras available to Gloucestershire AdEd tutors for this very purpose are very straightforward to use - I speak from experience! If you would find one useful in your work, then contact Jane Carter Dunn at AdEd and speak to her about the equipment we have available for all tutors. Believe me, none of us have received training in their use - we have read manuals and shared experience. They are ordinary cameras with a video facility and the picture quality is remarkable (as you've no doubt seen elsewhere on this blog and on our YouTube site)
With my curriculum Support hat on, I'd be more than happy to meet up and talk more specifically about it if you'd find it helpful. Let me know (my contact details are available via AdEd at Shire Hall)
Thanks for stopping by the blog and leaving your thoughts - very welcome!!
Thanks Gill for your reply.I look forward to the answer to the Project questions. I have become keen to know more about this bid and how the money has been spent. Curious - all because of a comment from my observer referring me to equipment that I didn't realise was available to me.

Just pop in to says 'thanks' to Lizzie G for her comment on my blog. This looks to be a fascinating project.
