Observation team training
Somehow me, a newby, has been asked/told to blog about the training yesterday. very useful and helped me focus on what I need to be looking for...and at, when observing sessions. I've joined the LLN team just this week having worked in work-based training for the last 17 years as a tutor and manager. There's loads to learn - strange being on the other side of the fence - but everyone is very welcoming and friendly. Excellent trainer..Sean from Halifax or somewhere up there!! I'm a very southern girl - Cornish by birth. He was very good at making us think and explain why we came to the conclusion we did..must be some good teaching techniques there...

Good to hear form you Su! It was a good day, wasn't it? But oh boy, did my brain hurt after all that thinking!
Also found this training really useful. Although it was aimed at how we will moderate there was so much that I took away as an observer. I am keen to get an observation or two using the new format under my belt before the inspection. The need for so many performance notes seems quite daunting. However I do think this new style of recording observations will give tutors so much more information on how they can improve than the tick box forms we were using previously.
I'm from the north coast...Mum from St Columb Minor and Dad from Crantock...both just outside Newquay. I was born in Redruth and lived in Newquay for the first 3 years of my life but it still feels like home and I try to get back at least twice a year.
woops should obviously have found time to go on the blog earlier to see what you all thought about the training that I organised for moderating the observations. I was amazed at how quickly the day dissappeared - i agree with Gill I was exhausted when I got back. Sean was well worth booking and for those few of you who missed the opportunity I have contacted him already to see what other dates he could offer to follow up with a session on Feedback and perhaps an interactive moderation group in the afternoon --we all felt a. n other person chairing the group would be so much better.
I've trawled through the feedback and will try and plan to fit in all your suggestions to the next team training....
In the meantime, we are in the process of gathering up all the course details for this term from provider managers so that we can plan the OFSTED week.. a bit of a jigsaw but it is taking shape rather rapidly i'm glad to say.I'm always flabberghasted by the range of courses that is out there when you look at the whole list.
I am sure all the past years training/shadows/healthcheck will be at the front of our minds as we are "shadowed" around the county between the 13th - 16th October.
Glad you think the new style of report is more supportive to tutors - we try to act on the feedback we get from tutors who have been observed so this is one way of demonstrating that we do listen and change things if it will imp[rove things for everyone.
